OOU mgt denies charging students extra fees
BY DAUD OLATUNJI
ABEOKUTA—The management of the Olabisi Onabanjo
University, yesterday, said it had not asked its final year
medical students to pay extra tuition because of any strike.
In a statement by the Head, Corporate Affairs Division,
Mr.Niyi Oduwole in Abeokuta, the management explained that
the extension of period of medical students in the clinical
school due to strike in the teaching hospital by doctors and
other ancillary medical personnel necessitated the request for
payment by the students.
The medical students of the institution had accused the
management of the institution of calling the bluff of the
Ogun State House of Assembly over its directive to over
stay action on the collection of the alleged extra fee from
the students.
The management said: “To set the records straight, no
student and including our medical students were ever
directed to pay extra tuition due to any strike in the
university.
“However, extension of period of study of medical students in
the clinical school due to strike in the teaching hospital by
doctors and other ancillary medical personnel may occur.”
